Crab Food: Crab Soup (게국지) and Spicy Blue Crab Stew (꽃게탕)

There are a lot crab restaurant in Taean. I want to recommend the crab food that can be enjoyed at Taean, namely crab soup and crab stew. Crab soup (게국지) is a local food in South Chungcheong, and it is a crab which is boiled with aged kimchi. Meanwhile spicy blue crab stew (꽃게탕) is a Korean mainly soup composed of blue crabs.

My friends and I went to one of restaurant in Taean for having a lunch with crab. The name of restaurant is 안면도맛집 꽃지꽃게집. They have set menu of this crab, we need to only choose between crab soup or crab stew. The set menu also get side dishes like soy sauce marinated crab (간장게장), spicy marinated crab (양념게장), shrimp, and rice. Therefore we chose the set menu of crab soup (게국지).

For me, the taste of the crab soup is very flavorful and little bit spicy. Even though it was summer when we were there, the soup tasted fresh in the mouth. But, for soy sauce crab and spicy crab not too bad, the one in Jeolla Provinsi still better.

Seafood Kalgusuku (해물 칼국수)

Another dishes that you may try in Taean is seafood kalguksu. Kalguksu (칼국수) is a Korean noodle dish consisting of handmade, knife-cut wheat flour noodles served in a large bowl with broth and other ingredients. They put the clamp and shrimp on the dishes then we called it 'seafood kalguksu'.

One of restaurant that I would like to recommend you is closed to Anymyeondo Fish Market (안면도 수산시장). Just beside the market, there is restaurant called Anymyeondo Haemul Kalguksu (안면도 해물 칼국수). It's very unpromosing if we only viewed from the front door, even it looks like a closed restaurant. But the restaurant was crowded with people. So, let's try the seafood kalguksu!

This restaurant offers seafood kalguksu in large portions, plus provided rice and ingredients. While we waited for the kalguksu cooked, we can mix the rice and the ingredients into mixed rice. Honestly it's the first time I got rice when ordering kalguksu.

For taste, wow the best! I usually need to add salt or kimchi into kalguksu, but no need here. The kalguksu itself has big portion with a lot of clamps inside. The price is also very suitable, only 10,000 for a person. Oh, for those of you who can still eat, you can also order mandu or dumplings in Korean cuisine. We were very full, but many people ordered mandu at this restaurant.

Local Snack Market: Fried Seafood

Don't forget to visit Anmyeondo Fish Market and taste the local snacks. We had no intention of buying seafood at the market, but we came here to see the ambience and taste the market snacks.

One of the snacks that you can try is fried seafood. There are several shops selling fried seafood here, so you may choose the one that appeals to your heart. We took the shop near the exit, as it served a lot of fried food as well as sikhye (식혜). Sikhye is a traditional sweet Korean rice beverage, famous to drink in sauna or Korean chimcilbang.

The price was affordable so we chose some fried seafood and sikhye to eat during the trip. We we were full because of lunch with kalguksu, so we just take out and eat while take a rest in cafe. Anyway, fried food can never go wrong. They also provide soy sauce but we didn't use it.

Price: Fried Seafood 1,000-2,000 won; Sikhye 2,500 won.
