What is UN Peacekeeping does? What UN Peacekeeping do?

UN Peacekeeping helps countries navigate the difficult path from conflict to peace. We have unique strengths, including legitimacy, burden sharing, and an ability to deploy troops and police from around the world, integrating them with civilian peacekeepers to address a range of mandates set by the UN Security Council and General Assembly.

They have responsible to protecting civilians, preventing conflicts, build rule of law and security institutions, promote human rights, empower women, deliver field support.

D-100 2021 Seoul UN Peacekeeping Ministerial

This year 7-8 December 2021, UN Peacekeeping Ministerial will be held at Seoul, South Korea. It will be the largest ministerial-level meeting in South Korea, and the first in Asia. As the opening of this event, on 27 August it was launched the D-100 event and a Kick-off ceremony of the Youth Peacekeepers led by the Director General, Ms. Eunji Seo, the 2021 Seoul UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Preparatory Secretariat.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the event was held online using the metaverse 'ifland', the event organized by the Korean government in collaboration with SK Telecom. There are total of 30 participants, including 20 Youth Peacekeepers.

The D-100 event was sequenced as follows: (1) Welcoming remarks and the award ceremony of the Ministerial emblem contest; (2) Introducing the Youth Peacekeepers; (3) D-100 congratulatory video messages. The video messages are from the United Nations, the diplomatic corps based in Seoul, the Hanbit Unit deployed in South Sudan, Korean celebrities, etc. and (4) Award ceremony of the Best Vision Award.

I was also present at the D-100 event, in online platform! Honestly this is my first time using metaverse 'ifland' in an online meeting. Very surprised because it felt like being present at the event venue, seeing the presentation delivered by UN DPO. I also went up on stage for self-introduction and joined a group photo. It feels like real!

About 2021 Seoul UN Youth Peacekeepers

I am a part of 2021 Seoul UN Youth Peacekeepers. So, what is Youth Peacekeepers?

To approach the 2021 Seoul UN Peacekeeping Ministerial more friendly to the public, the younger generation is needed. So this year, 20 Youth Peacekeepers in South Korea were selected, coming from different regions of Korea, including foreigners. I belong to the Youth Peacekeepers, serving as an extension of Seoul UN Peacekeeping, to introduce and promote this event, as well as share 'peace' till outside Korea.
